How to Update Firmware on a HALO Pump (WW-HALO)
This guide explains how to update the firmware on a HALO smart sump pump using the local firmware updater tool over Wi-Fi.
What You Will Need
- A smartphone (iPhone or Android) to connect the pump to the app
- A Windows or macOS computer with Wi-Fi
- Your home Wi-Fi password (You will need to paste it or type it, once or twice)
How long does this take?
The actual firmware update takes under 2 minutes. The rest of the process involves resetting the pump a couple of times, which might sound like a lot, but do not let that throw you off. Each reset is quick and straightforward. On a regular setup, you should be done in under 15 minutes.
Step 1: Make Sure Your Pump Is Connected to the App
Before anything else, confirm your pump is already set up and connected in the Basement Guardian app.
If you have not set up your pump yet, or if you are having trouble connecting it, follow this guide first: HALO Setup Steps

Step 2: Put the Pump into Pairing Mode
Once we have confirmed the upgrade is ready, you can begin the update process.
- Remove the device from your app
- Perform a factory reset
- Confirm the Wi-Fi LED is blinking yellow
This means the device is in pairing mode.
If more than 15 minutes pass:
- Do a factory reset once again
Step 3: Connect to the Pump's Wi-Fi
- Open Wi-Fi settings on your computer
- Look for a network named: WW-HALO-XXXXXX
- Connect to that network
Step 4: Run the Firmware Updater
On Windows
- Download WW-HALO-UPDATER_Windows(RIDGID).zip
- Watch this quick walkthrough: Windows Update Video
On macOS
- Download WW-HALO-UPDATER_macOS(RIDGID).zip
- Watch this quick walkthrough: macOS Update Video
A terminal window will open showing the update progress. Wait until the process completes.
Step 5: Reconnect the Pump
- Perform a factory reset
- Open the Basement Guardian app
- Follow the normal setup process
- Re-add the pump to your account
Troubleshooting
Pump not showing Wi-Fi network
- Make sure it is in pairing mode (blinking yellow LED)
- Repeat the reset process if needed
Update fails or does not start
- Confirm you are connected to the WW-HALO network
- Retry within the 15-minute window
Pairing times out
- Re-trigger pairing mode and try again
Notes
- The update is performed locally over Wi-Fi
- No internet connection is required during the update
- Do not disconnect power during the update process
